Why has Sony abandoned its ModNation Racers series while still using that franchise's developer? Why is branding the kart racer with LittleBigPlanet a smarter move? Obviously, questions galore surround this decision.

But there's excitement, too. Over at the PlayStation Blog, the Studio Director of LittleBigPlanet's native studio, Media Molecule, wrote a post introducing the game. Shortly into the blog post, United Front Games' Senior Producer James Grieve took over, talking a bit more about the game and what players could expect.

But it's within the reader comments below the blog -- and James Grieve's answers to those questions -- that new information about LittleBigPlanet Karting has emerged.

One user asks Grieve if there will be a Vita iteration for LittleBigPlanet Karting, to which Grieve answers, "currently, there are no plans to release a Vita version of this game." Another user brings up ModNation Racers' notoriously-long load times, to which Grieve notes that he "think you'll be pleasantly surprised" by LittleBigPlanet Karting's assumedly-altered load times.

One interesting question a user asks is if it will be possible to bring over ModNation Racers' creations -- karts, mods and tracks -- into LittleBigPlanet Karting. The answer according to Grieve, unfortunately, is no. "We've crammed so much new functionality into LBPK that bringing creations forward from MNR unfortunately won't be possible. We can't wait to see what the community will create with all the new tools available!"

Like ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet Karting "will be a full-scale on-disc title," according to Grieve, and will be 3D-enabled. And unlike Sony San Diego's somewhat-lacking iteration of ModNation Racers for PlayStation Vita, LittleBigPlanet Karting will support "online competitive multiplayer, with up to 8 players competing online at once in Races, Battles and other events!" Four player split-screen will also be available if you want to play with friends locally.

©2012-03-23, IGN Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved
